Minister Gennez received questions in parliament about the events in the Meerspoort residential care center in Oudenaarde. Four young people, two of whom worked in the Woonzorgcentrum Meerspoort, have currently been arrested on suspicion of theft, degrading treatment and voyeurism. The local police Flemish Ardennes received stolen jewelry in the WZC on 7 March. An 18-year-old job student was identified as a suspect.
When reading his smartphone, the police found disturbing films, on which vulnerable and needy residents were exposed to aggression and humiliation. Part of the films would have been recorded in the Meerspoort residential care center in Oudenaarde. Later it also became known that at least one video was made in the De Branding care institution in Kortrijk.

Rita’s managing director of Labeke of the Mariahuis residential care center confirms that the investigation has extended to the institution in Gavere. “We were yesterday morning (Monday, ed.) informed by the local police Flemish Ardennes. According to the last inspection report, Mariahuis has a recognition for 120 residents and about half is struggling with dementia. Theft
The case came to light after a theft in a Meerspoort residential care center in Oudenaarde. The police then checked the mobile by trainee ND and found a ‘WhatsApp group’ there with about twenty videos in which the elderly in different retirement homes are mistreated. Like conscience, there are four young people in jail for that case to date. These are the two brothers ND (18) and MD (21). They would have made eight victims in Oudenaarde.
The third suspect is ZB (21), the girlfriend of ND, who would have charged one video himself from the De Branding retirement home in Kortrijk. In addition, there is a nineteen -year -old friend who was arrested last. He may be the one who made the videos in Gavere. But that is not at all clear at the moment and the public prosecutor does not want to comment on the case. It is striking that the investigators in Gavere offered photos of eight victims and that only six people could be identified. At least two victims are still unidentified until the moment.
