The Kleine Elsegem is preparing for the funeral of Willy Naessens on Saturday. The church is reserved for the family and guests, but at least three locations there are large screens to follow the service. « It was his wish to treat everyone present to a sandwich with minced meat or preparation, » it sounds.
A final greeting to Willy can go on Thursday in the Strohoeve, between 2 and 7 p.m. The family will be present.
Naessens will be buried on Saturday. The service takes place at 11 am in the church of Kleine Elsegem, a part of Wortegem-Petegem. The church is also the place where Willy married in 2018 with his Marie-Jeanne. With 250 seats, it is much too small to give everyone a place. That is why it is reserved for the family and guests.
Préparé sandwiches
There will be a large screen on the square in front of the church. Everyone is welcome there. There will also be a large screen on the Stoeterij de Strohoeve. Everyone is welcome there too. Employees can go to the company itself.
« Willy will be driven to the church in his funeral carriage from the company, » says Mayor Luc Vander Meeren (Mayor’s Team). « The family will walk behind the carriage in good weather, in bad weather they follow in a van. The employees look to form a long honorary hedge, but that is not yet fixed. »
« After the service there is a sandwich with minced meat or preparation for everyone, that was his wish, » says Vander Meeren. « That will happen on the Strohoeve. »
Many people are expected on Saturday. « The parking near the church is only for the family. There are car parks for cars and bicycles. Extra police are provided to steer everything in the right direction. The Red Cross will also be present. Willy was a warm person and we will miss him enormously. Not only me, but many. »
