Allegations for doctors regarding the death of a pregnant Dorota in a hospital in Nowy Targ
Mrs. Dorota from Bochnia died in the Podhale Specialist Hospital John Paul II in Nowy Targ on May 24, 2023. The patient went to this institution in the fifth month of pregnancy, she died of septic shock. As PAP reminds, medical records show that a few hours before death, at 5.20, ultrasound showed fetal death. A few days earlier, on the night of May 20-21, the woman began to leave the fetal waters. After the death of a pregnant, the Patient Rights Ombudsman had a lot of reservations about the quality of care for a woman in the hospital. The prosecutor’s office also shared them now.
Allegations for doctors after the death of a pregnant Dorota in a hospital in Nowy Targ
Information about the allegations against three doctors was confirmed by PAP Izabela Knapik from the press team of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Katowice. In the case, the opinion of experts was obtained, who negatively assessed the diagnostic and therapeutic proceedings that were implemented to the patient.
In connection with the content of the opinion, as well as the other evidence gathered during the investigation, decisions were issued on the presentation of allegations to three doctors, specialists in the field of gynecology and obstetrics. Two people are accused of exposing the patient to the immediate danger of losing his life, while the allegation of one person was additionally involved

She also reported that procedural activities with two people have been carried out so far. The suspects who were already questioned did not admit to committing the alleged acts, refused to explain and answer questions.
According to PAP’s information, the allegation of human exposure to the person who was obliged to care for him was heard by the former head of the department, to which Mrs. Dorota went. The accusation of him is related to both the duties of the doctor at the time, as well as supervision and control over the branch personnel.
According to PAP, the second suspicious person is A doctor who directly dealt with Mrs. Dorota in the period preceding her death. The prosecutor’s office accuses her of both the patient’s exposure to danger and inadvertently causing her death. Both of these crimes are punishable by up to five years imprisonment.
The third doctor is still without any accusations of the death of a pregnant Dorota
PAP reports that in recent days the allegations were also to be presented to the third doctor who looked after Mrs. Dorota, but his interrogation has not yet occurred. He asked to perform this activity at his place of residence at a different time.

It should be emphasized that the circle of people who may have charges in this matter is not yet closed. However, the responsibility of medical staff members is only one dimension of this tragedy. At the source of medical errors, there is often a vague law that requires change. The freedom of interpretation of applicable regulations creates a risk for both doctors and patients. After the death of Mrs. Izabela from Pszczyna, the recommendations of the Minister of Health were issued, which, however, did not prevent Mrs. Dorota’s death, and subsequent positions and standards issued by medical societies do not solve the problem of the lack of safety of women
