Allbright about Donald Trump wants to get rid of the Dei goal
Amanda Lundeteg told her colleagues the other day that it feels like she wants to strangle herself. Because instead of encouraging companies to have clear goals, she is now doing the opposite.
– What is so sad is that with clear, sharp goals and the more structured and strategic equality work you do, the greater the effect you get, she says and continues:
– And now I instead urge companies that depend on the United States to reformulate the work.
A Swedish company who changed their diversity goals is Ericsson, which Today’s industry noticed after they compare the company’s annual reports.
The background is that the Trump administration wants to remove the so-called Dei goal from the US labor market in different ways.
First, the demand from Trump came that dei formulations would be removed from all federal institutions. But a few weeks ago it became known that the requirements extend outside the US state apparatus. Large European companies, including Ericsson, received a letter stating that those who would continue to do business with the US state must remove dei formulations.
– I think the companies choose three different approaches in this, explains Amanda Lundeteg and divide them into « race -users », « camouflare » and « fighting ».
The « race users » ceased with their de-work fairly immediately. Daniel Sonesson, CEO and party leader for Citizenship Collection is one of them. He meant in one Debate article In Dagens Industri that « Dei has not been about inclusion – it has in practice become a tool for providing certain groups of benefits based on emotional and irrational arguments. »
Another type Of companies, they are « fighting ». Here Axfood is found which sees it as a competitive advantage to be good at social sustainability. There is also Apple who said early on that the company would not change its dei goals. Since then, however, CEO Tim Cook has been a bit floating in his comments.
A third type is the « camouflers ». Here you will find Ericsson who changed wording from writing that you have certain « goals » to the « ambition ».
– These companies have a lot of operations in the USA. Either the parent company is there or you are a supplier. For those companies, it is a real reality that one must relate to the legal changes that may be made. The « camouflers » can also centrally say that they stop dei work, while the Swedish CEO says that the issues are still very important, explains Amanda Lundeteg and continues:
-It is companies that have worked with dei issues for a while and that see the benefits of it. They are forced to camouflage, but still work on the issues.
Amanda Lundeteg means That the important thing is not really what you call things but what you do. But that there is a great risk that you are now starting to make writing that are fluffy and toothless.
– It risks throwing us back ten years in the time when everything was a little vague.
Amanda Lundeteg believes that it may be best to wait until the issue has been legally tried in the United States.
– Some are a bit quick to tone down this work. It is important to remember that the absolute majority is not affected by this. So that not all companies believe that now you can’t work with Dei anymore.
