Parents at Rosengårdskolen in Odense received a message they hardly expected.
The school’s trees and outdoor areas have been invaded by an unwelcome guest – namely the so -called oak processions, also known by the more dramatic nickname: « The Larvy from Hell ».
The finding of the larva’s rescue has occurred in all oak trees on the school grounds as well as on a bench near a central play area. The school’s management has therefore sounded alarm and informed both parents and authorities.

Warning to both children and adults
The caterpillar is not just a harmless little crippling legs – contact with it can lead to allergic reactions to the skin, breathing problems and irritation to the eyes. Odense Municipality warns this on its website.
The students have been told to avoid all marked areas and leave the rescuers at peace. At the same time has the municipality responded to the inquiry and sends out an inspection team to remove the larvae.
Spread in the area
This is not the first time the oak procession spinner appears in the Odense area. Earlier this week reported TV 2that the larva had also been observed in the popular city park Munke Mose, where many families enjoy the summer weather.
The oak processional spinner is a night swarm that is not yet established in Denmark. However, it is quite widespread in parts of Central Europe such as Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands, where it has a reputation for creating problems in both parks and forests – especially in the summer.
