All Danish garden owners should have lying down
On Friday and Saturday, DMI’s drought index reached over 9, which meant we got the season’s first two national drought day.
It has not been seen as early in the year in the 21 years from which DMI has data.
This means that an average of about 90 millimeters of rainfall in the upper soil layers is missing throughout the country, but the current forecasts do not show much rain in the near future.
« We expect in the coming period to see reviews of fires in houses, sheds and carports caused by unfortunate or careless use of weed burners, » says Lama Chehade.
Figures from the Emergency Management Agency show that weed burners were to blame for more than 400 calls in 2024.

By avoiding the use of weed burners, together we can reduce the risk of fires and protect our homes and surroundings, » says Helene Ibsen, Housing Manager in Topdanmark.

Be aware of local or permanent ban on burning or use of open fire.

Avoid burning weeds with a weed burner as glow is the most frequent reason for fire in sheds.

Use tobacco, machines and electrical tools with care – get sparks can start a fire.

Keep your distance from settlements and vegetation using open fire such as barbecue and bonfires.

Always have a bucket of water or the garden hose ready if you cannot avoid using open fire.
