Alexander Ovechkin leveled Wayne Greek’s great goal record in NHL

Alexander Ovechkin equalized the record of legend Wayne Greek for the most scored goals in the history of the US and Canada National Hockey League. The Russian signed twice for his « Washington Capital » in a 5-3 victory over « Chicago Black Hawks », thus already having 894 hits in his career overseas – just as much as they are at Greek’s account. The Canadian’s record last 26 years, and it was believed that it would not be improved.

But by the end of the regular season at the NHL, Ovechkin will almost certainly be in the ranking of the most productive player in the history of the League. Washington Capital has six remaining matches by the end of the regular season, and already guarantees participation in playoffs. So Alexander the Great, as the Russian hockey player is called, will have at least 10 more options to become number 1 in the scored goals in the NHL.

But Ovechkin does not want to get into history the easy way – that is, to score his number 895 on an empty door. There was such an opportunity against Chicago, but did not want to enter the ice when the opponent removed his goalkeeper to seek a leveling hits for 4: 4. The cameras caught him tell coach Spencer Carbury that he did not want to take advantage of the situation and his next goal was on an empty door. Which is understandable – probably for many years the hit will revolve through all possible channels.

Wayne Greek, the living legend of the NHL, was in the stands and saw the two goals of Ovechkin live. After the match, the two gave a joint press conference, at which the Canadian confirmed that he would attend every match of Washington Capital, while Alexander the Great realized the number 895.

At the beginning of this season, Ovechkin had 853 goals on his account, scoring 15 hits in the first 18 matches. Subsequently, he received an injury – a fracture of the hip fibula that removed it from a game for 5 weeks. But the trauma did not take him out of the excellent rhythm, and after his return to the game he signed four times for five meetings.

Greek scored his last goal on March 29, 1999. When he was withdrawn from sports, he held a total of 61 records, but the most significant of them will soon belong to Alexander Ovechkin.
