Alert state, extended to Praid
The alert status was extended to minefollowing the emergency situation caused by flooding the saline from the locality by the waters of the Corund stream. The Harghita Prefecture announced on Saturday that the alert state is extended for 30 days, starting June 7.
The prefecture presented the conclusions of the operational session, organized on Friday evening, attended by Deputy Prime Minister Tánczos Barna, Minister of Economy, Bogdan Ivan, Minister of the Environment, Mircea Fechet, head of the Emergency Department, Raed Arafat, and all the factors involved in managing the emergency situation. The officials present in Praid pointed out that the zero priority of the whole action is the safety of the citizens.
According to a press information, works were carried out by the builder to prepare the deviation of the Corund stream, and on Friday afternoon the second transport of corrugate pipes arrived.
The prefect’s institution specified that among priorities there is the analysis « to identify what is safe above the mine », the deviation of the Corund stream until July 1 and the identification of the land for the arrangement of a lake where the water extracted from the mine will be stored, depending on the expertise performed by the expert groups.
The temporary evacuation measures of the population are maintained for at least 20 days, with granting the possibility of riparian to have access during the day in their own households, for different current activities.
Also, the defense line built on the alignment of the Corund stream is maintained.
« In order to avoid the endanger of people, access to the area is controlled, maintaining the two fixed gendarmes and mixed movable patrols of the MAI structures. The authorities permanently monitor the evolution of the situation, and the measures implemented so far have as main purpose the protection of both the locals and the people who transit the area.
