Alcaraz in new final – Musetti gave up
The 23-year-old Italian, who made his second Grand Slam semi-final in his career, pressed Alcaraz hard for just over two hours.
But after losing second sets in a shudder, which lasted for over an hour, it ran away and Alcaraz led by 4–6, 7–6 (7–3), 6–0, 2-0 when the Italian gave up.
Then, just before that, Musetti had been treated on the track.
– the first two sets Was really tough, I had several chances that I missed. At the beginning of the third set I pressed him and didn’t let him play on his strengths, so it was good, says Alcaraz in victory interview in Eurosport.
– I wish him all the best and a quick return, the Spaniard adds.
Now the winner between Novak Djokovic is waiting and world set Jannik Sinner for Alcaraz in the final on Sunday. He gets asked if he should see Friday night’s semi -finals.
– I don’t miss it, it will be one of the best matches we have in tennis right now. I’ll see it, enjoy and of course see what to do tactically, says Alcaraz, who has never lost any of the four Grand Slam finals he played in his career.
The Italian semi -final place was somewhat controversial as several wanted to see him washed in the quarterfinals against American Frances Tiefoe. Musetti became frustrated after a lost point and kicked a ball that took the chest on a line judge.
According to the rules Should a player who meets a referee with the ball was washed – which, among other things, happened to Novak Djokovic in the US Open 2020.
– He met the judge and nothing happened. I think it’s comical. It’s not consistent, Tiefoe said afterwards.
