At Skanderbeg Square, today officially opened the 82nd edition of Albania’s cycling tour, one of the most important sports activities of cycling in the country. Present at the opening ceremony was the Minister of Education and Sports, Ogerta Manastirliu, who praised this activity as an important part of efforts to develop sports and promote Albania in the international arena.

“The cycling tour is taking place in Albania and coincided shortly after a major event, of Giro D’Italia, where Albania was first introduced into the international map of prestigious sports events, with the great departure held in our country. other ”Manastirliu said.

Organized by the Albanian Federation of Cycling, with the support of the Ministry of Education and Sport, this event participates alongside Albanian teams and foreign teams from the Balkan countries, Europe, etc. « This edition is attended by 98 cyclists from 14 international teams, who will compete in 5 municipalities by May 30th. I want to thank you for engaging in this next cycling tour. It is a race that includes not only athletes from our country but also from different countries of the world, » said Manastirliu.

Minister Manastirliu emphasized that support for the sport is ever increasing and part of a long -term strategy. « Support for sports, sports infrastructure, all ages and elite athletes are increasing. The focus of our work is to increase financial support and the development of the sports strategy, which aims to include sports at all ages, and support our federations, » she added.

Mentioning the program of sports teams in schools that include children and young people in school sports activities, Manastirliu also focused on cycling: “We are working hard with the Albanian Olympic Committee and all federations for the continuation and expansion of school activities, as are school sports teams, where we have more than 12,000 children. Starting next year, we will have an expansion of disciplines and of course cycling is also the focus of all the investments we are making. ”

At the end of her speech, Manastirliu emphasized the importance of the activities of this level for the promotion of Albania and the values ​​of the sport: « It is very important for national and international activities to include as many municipalities as possible. Sport unites, promotes common values ​​and tourism. I am convinced that this cycling tour will also be promoted worthily thanks to international cyclists. » The 82nd edition of the cycling district of Albania coincided with the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Albanian Cycling Federation.
