Albania, Locomotive of Regional Progress
Secretary General of the Council for Regional Cooperation (RCC), Amer Kanetanovic, paid today an official visit to Tirana, where he met with President Bajram Begaj and Speaker of Parliament, Elisa Spiropali. The visit was part of a regional tournament and focused on the advancement of regional cooperation agendas and future development plans.
During the meetings, Kapetanovic congratulated Albania on the achievements during the Presidency of the Cooperation Process in Southeast Europe (SEECP), assessing its important role in stability, security and economic growth in the region. He also singled out progress in the EU membership process and the fact that Albania was among the first in the Western Balkans to join SEPA, along with Montenegro.
“The Western Balkans are moving towards economic integration and digital transformation, and Albania is the locomotive of this process. RCC appreciates its leadership in regional initiatives and we are looking forward to bringing concrete benefits to citizens of Southeast Europe, ”Kapetanovic said. At the meeting with Mayor Spiropali, they also discussed the role of parliaments in advancing regional cooperation and the new study on parliamentary cooperation for regional interconnection in Southeast Europe, a proposed Albanian initiative.
Albanian officials reaffirmed support for the RCC, assessing efforts to implement the regional joint market and the green agenda. Following a visit to Skopje, Kapetanovic is expected to travel to Brussels, where he will lead an important meeting on the implementation of the Action Plan for the Regional Common Market. With Albania at the top of the progress train, the Western Balkans looks closer than ever the European dream!
