Alarm on the frequency « King Ferdinand ». A sailor has disappeared
A sailor, an employee of the Romanian Naval Forces, is sought after finding his lack on board the frigate ‘King Ferdinand’, a ship in the Mediterranean, informed the Ministry of National Defense (MApN) on Sunday.
According to the quoted source, on the morning of Sunday, June 1, around 7.00, aboard the frigate ‘King Ferdinand’ – 221, a ship in the mission, in the Mediterranean, was found the lack of a crew sailor.
‘At the time of disappearance, the frigate of the Romanian naval forces, which participated, from the beginning of May, in the EUNAVFOR MED IRINI operation, was in international waters, about 90 nautical miles traversed by the Libyan port. According to the standards applicable in these situations, the commander of the frigate ‘King Ferdinand’ has urgently ordered his search measures, both on board the ship and by sea, through his own forces – including with the helicopter on board. In parallel, the command of the EUNAVFOR MED IRINI Operation was notified, which sent additional naval means to the area, it appears from the statement sent by the MApN.

The missing military man is the Second Class Military Master Viorel Culea, an electromechanical specialist. He was last seen on board the ship on Sunday morning, around 4.30. The military is 46 years old, is unmarried and is employed in the Romanian naval forces since 2003.
‘The leadership of the General Staff of the Naval Forces has taken measures to announce the military family, to which the necessary psychological support is provided during this period. According to the norms in force, the military prosecutor’s office was notified, and the Figate commander appointed a research commission of the circumstances of this event ‘, the statement said.
King ‘King Ferdinand’ – 221 has a crew of 240 soldiers on board. The ship recently was in a planned stop in the port of Souda, Greece, where he left on Saturday, May 31, to move to the patrol district distributed to the Mediterranean.
The frigate left on Monday, May 5, from the Constanta military port, to participate, for about 40 days, at the EUNAVFOR MED IRINI operation, carried out under the aegis of the European Union, along with partner ships in France, Greece and Italy. The main mission is to support the respect of the embargo on the weapons imposed on Libya, through the resolutions of the Security Council of the United Nations (UN). The ship is about to return to the country in mid -June.
