AIR. PSD proposes renewal of Aguiar-Branco as President
The PSD will propose the renewal of the current president of Parliament, José Pedro Aguiar-Branco, announced party leader Luís Montenegro at the meeting of the Social Democratic Parliamentary Group. In the last legislature, PSD deputy José Pedro Aguiar-Branco was elected president of the Assembly of the Republic on March 27, 2024 with 160 votes in favor, but only to the fourth attempt.
Already André Ventura announced that his party will not present any candidacy for the leadership of the air and that the reappointment of Aguiar-Branco will have the consent of the arrival. « The arrival decided not to advance with an candidacy for the President of the Assembly of the Republic because it understood that, despite being the second most voted party, there was a party with more vote, in this case a coalition, and that it should be up to this coalition to present the candidate for president of the Assembly of the Republic, » said the Leader of the arrival.
The election of the Parliament Table will be held on Tuesday, at the first plenary session of this new legislature.
PSD’s parliamentary leader Hugo Soares announced on Monday that he will be reappointed, an announcement received with much applause at the bench meeting. « This is where I feel good and where I think I can continue to help the country, first, and the government in second place, » said the PSD secretary general at the end of the meeting, in statements to journalists.
