Among the points to be clarified of the dynamics of the accident, the position at the start of the Boeing 787 also appears: some drivers are wondering why the plane has decided to make only 1,900 meters of run -up

Why did Air India’s Boeing 787 take off from the middle of the track and did not take a few meters more? This is one of the questions that the experts are asking to give an explanation toaccident that took place on Thursday at lunchtime in Ahmedabadcity of western India. The plane, with 242 people on board, crashed between the houses a minute after getting up from the ground.

After departure

The videos shot – one, in particular – show the Boeing struggling to take further altitude. On the contrary: the pilots seem to have difficulty even keeping him at a height of « security » from homes on the ground, so much so that after a few seconds the jet falls. How come? And here the question appears on the starting position. Track 23 of Ahmedabad airport, the one from which the Boeing started, is 3,505 meters long.

« Only 1,900 meters of run -up »

According to the data collected by the monitoring sites of air movements, the flight Air India 171 – directed to London Gatwick – enters more or less in the middle of that track and from there starts the run -up, if the data were correct. It is about 1,900 asphalt to be followed to reach enough speed to take off. But were those 1,900 meters enough? On this some pilots, contacted by Courierexpress some doubts.

A plane of over 220 tons

« A take -off with so little track is possible if there are performances, that is, if the calculations have been made compared to the position, if the drive of the engines has been studied to take off from that point », explains a commander. «Of course, a plane that must fly to London from India will weigh at least 220 tons and so, at first glance, it seems to me a short take -off race. It is very strange to take off from that point there and in those conditions ».

Failure to « Backtrack »

Another commander recalls that India-Pakistan tensions force Indian carriers to get around Pakistan, thus lengthening travel times but also increasing the kerosene to be embarking in order to support the entire journey. Other flights AI171 Ahmedabad-London-but not all of them-they performed the so-called « backtrack », that is, they took a little further back than halfway through the track in order to have a few more meters.

The investigations

Investigators will actually analyze all aspects. This from the little run does not appear on top of the points to be clarified on an official level. One hand will have to give it the two black boxes – one that records the audio in the piloting cabin, the other that memorizes thousands of flight and plane parameters – but at the moment they have not yet been recovered.
