AI-92 gasoline has risen in price to a maximum since the beginning of the year
Exchange prices for AI-92 gasoline have been updated from the beginning of the year in the conditions of seasonal growth in demand, reducing stocks and the desire of wholesale buyers to close transactions on the eve of a long weekend. On Tuesday, the quotes exceeded 59 thousand rubles. per ton, exceeding the peak values of last summer. The prices for AI-95 are growing moderately and remain significantly lower than the maximums of 2024, when a deficiency of this brand was noted due to incidents on the refinery.
Prices for AI-92 gasoline on the St. Petersburg Exchange on the index of the European part of the Russian Federation on June 10 increased by 1.33%, to 59.16 thousand rubles. per ton, setting a new maximum from the beginning of 2025. The quotes also exceeded the peak values of last summer, when the prices for AI-92 rose to 58.72 thousand rubles. per ton. The cost of this brand of gasoline demonstrates ascending dynamics with corrections from April 7 – during this period, quotes increased by 17.7%.
AI-95 on the St. Petersburg Exchange on June 10 went up by 0.39%, to 61.58 thousand rubles. per ton. The quotes are located near the maximum values of this year (62.35 thousand rubles per ton), but remain noticeably lower than the peak levels of the summer of 2024, when prices grew to 74.31 thousand rubles. per ton.
The Kommersant source in the industry believes that in the coming months, gasoline in the wholesale will continue to rise.
According to him, the market is influenced by seasonal increase in demand, reduction of previously accumulated reserves and transfer of refineries of refineries, which may limit the fuel supply in the summer. The dynamics of exchange prices, the interlocutor “Kommersant” awaits, will not be directly broadcast to the retail market. In recent years, prices for gas stations have risen approximately at a level or slightly above inflation, it recalls.
The head of the Russian fuel union, Yevgeny Arkush, says that the market situation is absolutely stable. It recalls that last summer the AI-95 deficit was observed in the market, associated with the accident at the LUKOIL-NIGHODNENFTEORGSINTASS plant. At that time, Mr. Arkush continues, AI-95 was worth more than AI-92 by almost 15–20 thousand rubles. per ton.
Senior BCS analyst Kirill Bakhtin also indicates that it is difficult to conduct a comparison of current gasoline prices with last year’s maximums: in 2024, due to attacks on the refinery, the production of AI-95 suffered primarily. This year, the analyst continues, the attacks on the refineries are less and the cost of the AI-95 is significantly lower than the peak values of the last year.
Maxim Dyachenko, managing partner of the Proteleum trader, notes that the demand was somewhat revived in this short week: buyers recorded volumes on the eve of a long weekend.
According to him, otherwise the situation in the market remains stable. The current quotes of the AI-92 are still significantly lower than the records of August 2023, when the European index reached 63.9 thousand rubles. For a ton, Mr. Dyachenko points out.
According to Maxim Dyachenko, in the summer, the price gap between the AI-92 and AI-95 is traditionally increased, but it is uneven, and it is difficult to identify the causes of growth by individual brands, since large oil companies acquire the main volumes. The current growth of AI-92 quotations may be associated with the purchase of one of the vertically integrated oil companies, he admits.
NEFT Research Managing Partner Sergei Frolov explains the growth of quotes with an increase in demand. According to his forecast, fuel prices in the year will increase above inflation due to an increase in excise taxes at the beginning of the year, which have not yet been reflected on retail. According to the latest data from Rosstat, according to the results of April, automobile gasoline has risen in retail by 12.3% a year by the year, which is higher than inflation (10.23% in April, according to the Central Bank). According to the Federal State Statistics Service, the average prices for AI-92 per year in April increased by 11.1%, to 56.48 rubles. per liter, on AI-95-by 10.9%, up to 61.71 rubles. per liter. Since December 2024, quotes increased by 2.4% and 2.3%, respectively.
Director of the Department of the oil and gas complex of the Ministry of Energy Anton Rubtsov said on June 5 that the domestic market of the Russian Federation was fully provided with automobile fuel. According to him, inventories of automobile gasoline at refineries and oil depots reach 1.8 million tons, which is 2% higher than the beginning of 2024.
