Ahead of the cold morning and the danger of frost

After the extremely warm early early April, Slovenia has been captured today by the significantly cooler polar air of Polar. The temperature drop was in some places dramatic, with daily temperatures in most of the country being even ten to fifteen degrees Celsius than on Saturday, the meteorologist on duty explained to STA for STA Brane Gregorcic by The Environmental Agencies of the Republic of Slovenia (Arso). Because the air is also quite dry, the atmosphere has quickly cleared, which announces low morning temperatures in the coming days.

There are several cold mornings ahead of us, and the highlight of the cooling is, according to Gregorčič, on Monday morning. At night, the wind will gradually calm down, and in clear weather the temperatures will drop boldly below freezing. Most of the interior of the country will be minus three to minus one degrees Celsius, and in the freezers, mercury can fall up to about minus six degrees Celsius. Only in Gorizia and by the sea will remain above zero. As a result, there is a high risk of salt and frost in the slopes in the lowlands, pointing out at Ars. Tuesday and mid -morning will also be somewhat cold, but not as pronounced as Monday.

Meteorologist Gregorčič adds that such cold air penetrations are not uncommon in the spring and are a characteristic of our climate. In April, on average, two such intrusions occur, and another one is usually followed by May, associated with folk tradition of « ice men ». “This is the last penetration of cold, cold air that can cause certain inconvenience. And according to the old folk tradition, farmers with certain cultures, which are more sensitive to low temperatures, wait until mid -May and only then plant them, « Gregorčič recalled.

How significant the change was, according to Arsa data: on Saturday, temperatures rose to 24 degrees Celsius (Črnomelj), while today at 8 o’clock in the morning in several places in Slovenia they measured just a few degrees above zero (Celje 2.6, Novo mesto 3.7, and Ljubljana 5.3 degrees Celsius). Due to the threatening danger of frost, agricultural experts have been pointing out producers in recent days of possible measures to protect sensitive plants.
