Agency Agency Agency to the White House, restored
An American judge decided on Tuesday in favor of restoring the access of the Associated Press press agency to the White House events, invoking the freedom of expression, reports the DPA.
« The Court decides that according to the first amendment, if the Government opens its doors for some journalists – whether it is the Oval Office, the Eastern Chamber or another – it cannot close the doors for other journalists because of their views, » said Judge Trevor McFadden in the 41 -page decision.
« The Constitution imposes this, » he added.
The AP acted in court three government officials due to a decision to prohibit reporters from events, which was taken to the Agency’s refusal to apply an executive order of US President Donald Trump, which renames the Gulf of Mexico as the « Gulf of America ».
In the action in the court, they appeared as defendant the head of the White House, Susan Wiles, the deputy head of personal Taylor Budowich and the press secretary Karoline Leavitt.
The White House has blocked the participation of AP journalists in a number of events and refused access to Donald Trump’s presidential aircraft, Air Force One.
The judge appointed by Trump Trevor McFadden has decided that the Government « immediately cancels the prohibition of AP access to the Oval Office, Air Force One and other limited spaces due to the point of view of the water, when such spaces are open to other members of the white house press ».
He also decided to « immediately cancel the prohibition on the AP based on the Agency at the events open to all the Journalists of the White House ».
AP is generally considered as one of the most important news agencies in the world. The non-profit organization usually has a priority access to US press events due to the important impact of the agency’s news, DPA notes.
