Again iconic model is relevant: « ugliest Porsche ever » may come back

Porsche is considering bringing a contemporary variant of the iconic 911 Turbo Flachbau from the 80s back into production. The model with the long nose and folding headlights had both supporters and opponents at the time and was described by some as « ugliest Porsche 911 ever ».

Porsche knows better than anyone how it can endlessly milk a successful model. The Porsche 911 therefore has dozens of variants that sold quickly. Now the luxury brand would consider launching a contemporary variant of the iconic 911 Turbo Flachbau. This special version of the 911 Turbo was made in a limited edition in the 1980s, and described by some as « ugliest Porsche 911 ever ».

The modern variant may undergo an important change: due to safety rules, typical folding headlights will be waived, but the car manufacturer will compensate for this with innovative LED lighting. But for the rest, not too much will be changed to the original model. Except for a more modern interior design with the latest gadgets in the field of electronics.

Porsche recently registered the names Flachbau and Flachbau RS at the European trademark agency. The plans are in line with the strategy of Porsche, just like Ferrari with its successful Icona series, to always release new versions of historical models. It is not known how much the Flachbau will cost, if he eventually rolled off the band.

Retro is in

Relancing iconic models has certainly been in for a while. Not only in the more expensive segment, but also with the popular brands. After the modern versions of, among others, Renault 5 and recently the iconic ‘Quatrelle’ or Renault 4, Fiat now also puts an old success song in a modern twist: De Panda. Fully electric and 4×4. With a roof rack, spoters and thick tires, this Panda looks incredibly cool. This Grande Panda is for sale from 25,990 euros in both hybrid and electric.

Earlier, Citroën and Volkswagen, among other things, came with modern electric versions of their iconic models.
