Again hundreds of civilians in one of the greatest murder in Darfur so far
In the Sudanese region of Darfur, many to hundreds of civilians were murdered last weekend during a wave of violence by the paramilitary grouping Rapid Support Forces (RSF). AP news agency writes on Saturday evening about more than a hundred dead, a day later message The Guardian Based on insiders already about two hundred murdered citizens. RSF invaded refugee camps and committed murder in the capital of the Al-Fashir region.
The violence is one of the most severe the Darfur region since the start of the civil war in Sudan between the government army and the paramilitary troops, about two years ago. The attacks on the refugee camps would still be on Sunday, writes The Guardian. Possibly the death toll increases even further.
The attacks by RSF focus on the Refugee Camps Zamzam and Abu Shorouk and the nearby capital, that is the last city in the Darfur region that is still in the hands of the government army. Both fighting parties commit violence to gain as much terrain as possible, although the victims east of Al-Fashir seem to be targeted because of their masalit-ethnicity. Human rights organization Human Rigths Watch has previously called the violence in Darfur an ethnic cleansing.
Displaced
The two attacked refugee camps offer protection to no fewer than 700,000 citizens who have been displaced by earlier violence and famine in Sudan. Due to this weekend’s attacks, at least 2,000 people have become displaced again, writes AP news agency. Among the civilian deaths are also a number of care providers of human rights organization Relief International.
Sudan has divided the two -year conflict: the government army has power in the north and east, and the RSF dominates most of Darfur and parts of the south. The war has already demanded tens of thousands of human lives, made more than 12 million people displaced, and has led to what the United Nations has called « the greatest humanitarian crisis ever ».
