Again bird flu infections on farm in Putten

Bird flu has been established on a turkey farm with 27,000 animals in Putten. To prevent further spread, the animals are cleared by the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA). The NVWA reports this in a press release.

To prevent spread to other parts of the country, measures are also being taken in the vicinity of the turkey farm. There are twelve other poultry farms in a radius of three kilometers. Within a radius of ten kilometers, but outside the three-kilometer zone, there are 62 poultry farms. A transport ban now applies to these companies: birds, eggs and other products are not allowed to leave the site.

A national has been applied since last November obligation For birds that are bred for sale. As a result, all birds must stay on poultry farms in an enclosed space, and there must be no visitors to the company, except the vet and staff. That decision followed an outbreak on a camping farm, also in Putten. That was the first outbreak in the Netherlands at the time in almost a year.

Bird flu was also set at a poultry farm in Friesland in December. Around 63,000 broilers were cleared there to prevent further spread.

Earlier this month, the first Dutch laying hens received a vaccine against bird flu. Whether this actually helps against future outbreaks must still be seen. This is still being investigated.
