Mlynky. The devastating consequences had a strong stormwhich hit the village of Mlynky on Monday afternoon in the Spišská Nová Ves district.
In the part of the village called Rakovec, there was a landslide in front of one of the cottages that damaged the second class road to Spišská Nová Ves.

According to the mayor of Mlynka, Maroš Turzák (independent), a huge amount of rainfall fell in a short time during the storm. Water that could not be drained for a clogged channel found its way directly through the road.
« It was a very heavy storm, it took about 45 minutes. A lot of water fell at once. The channel to drain rainwater clogged, and the water rolled across the road, » the mayor explained.
He stated that the landslide hit the section of the road in the direction from Spišská Nová Ves to the part of the village of Rakovec. Approximately four -meter section of the road was damaged. The soil slipped to the road. There was a risk that the deposit would also affect nearby cottages.
« On the opposite side of the road is a cottage that was closest to the landslide. The soil deposition stopped on the road. Fortunately, you know, there was a risk that if the storm lasted longer, the slope could also hit the property, » said Turzák.
The situation required the immediate intervention of several components. The mayor confirmed that the municipality, in cooperation with the road administration and other staff, provided basic cleaning and stabilization of the terrain.
« Of course, we started to solve the situation immediately. The road is narrowed to one lane to work at least limited, » the mayor described the situation from Tuesday morning.

Police reported that the situation would probably require a temporary complete closure and the establishment of a detour. However, the mayor did not know about this possibility.
« I learned about the detour only from you. No one has contacted me yet, so I don’t know if the closure will be officially ordered, » he added.
The police later stated that the location of the landslide arrived in the morning with technology and embarked on repair. She confirmed that, according to the road manager, the road was not damaged.
« Only the unpaved shoulder, which they pour over the day, will tear off, strengthening the quarry stone and subsequently compacted by crushed asphalt. If there are no complications, the repair will be completed on Tuesday and the journey will be fully passable again, » the police said.
However, the drivers should be careful in the section, and possible short -term restrictions should be taken into account during corrective work.

The mayor stressed that it is important that no dwellings or recreational objects were damaged. According to him, the situation was serious.
In the village they do everything they can to stabilize the situation, already have experience with extreme weather and know how to proceed.
They last hit the flood in 2019. After its remediation, they took several measures in the village of Mlynky. The riverbed of the river deepened in places that poured the most in the floods. Nevertheless, in the time of storms, they tend to have problems with the flames of water.
« We have no special technologies or detention systems. In the case of such tidal rains, we are dependent on the rapid intervention of firefighters who can use, for example, inflatable flood barriers. You can have a rose at home, but when a strong storm comes, the same is not enough.
In the village, according to his words, the drainage channels are continuously cleaned, but this also has its limits. Only when water is poured will it turn out how effective it is. Storms are increasingly extreme.
According to the mayor, caution is appropriate at the time of tidal rains and storms. Knows that in view of climate change and more and more often extreme manifestations the weather There will be similar situations. According to him, it is difficult to prepare for them.
The mayor calls on drivers to increase caution when passing through the section and prefer to choose an alternative route.
