After the Norwegian World Cup-Falun pulls in the brake

The organizer of the Alpine World Cup in Åre 2019 planned a profit of SEK 50 million, but noted a loss of almost SEK 30 million. Last season’s ski World Cup in Trondheim aimed at 20 million in profit, but according to Norwegian VG, the loss can be at least SEK 34 million.

It notes the Board of the World Cup company in Falun 2027, where Falu Municipality and the Swedish Ski Association are the two largest partners, when they are now working out a result goal.

Falun’s latest ski World Cup 2015 made 47 million in profit. The municipal council Liza Lundberg (S) has previously told the newspaper locally in Falun that she hopes for a similar result in 2027.

Pernilla farmer is not equal optimistic after the disaster report from Trondheim:

– We on the board now have discussion about return requirements. I want to come back with more fact -based evidence about this. We go through risks and look at different scenarios. It gives us reason to review this one lap and be extra careful.

But Falun is late in the preparation. Marketing manager and acting CFO were not appointed until early June.

– You always want things in your place before, but now we are there, says Pernilla Bonde, who feels that the recession poses an extra challenge to sell the arrangement:

– In general, it places extra demands on us.

Jonas PetersonCEO of the Ski World Cup in Falun, acknowledges that Trondheim’s budget failure is an alarm clock. Many people point to the bad weather, but Jonas Peterson sees the free visitors as another reason:

– More than 90,000 visitors were people who had not paid a single penny in the entrance. However, 90,000 people involve a huge amount of work for the World Cup organization and costs for security and waste management.
