After the murder of a medical doctor, they appeal: a register of aggressive patients now!
The event in Krakow shook not only with the medical community, but all of Poland. On April 29, a brutal attack took place at the University Hospital-35-year-old Jarosław W., an officer of the Prison Service from Katowice, invaded the orthopedic office and dealt a dozen or so blows to the doctor with a knife. Dr. Tomasz Solecki, a valued specialist, was the victim. The attacker was obsessed with him for two years. As reported by the media, he claimed that after a failed procedure the doctor « implanted leukemia ». He ignored the diagnoses of other doctors and rejected psychiatric help. Dr. Solecki died despite resuscitation. The perpetrator was detained and heard the murder of the murder. During the interrogation, he pleaded not guilty and refused to explain.
There is no doubt: you have to act immediately. Hence the foundation’s petition and specific suggestions for changes.
The first postulate is clear: Register of patients who have been aggressive towards doctors or nurses. Would act like a warning system. If the patient threatened, tugged, attacked – information about it will appear in the system. As today, there is a quarantine or insulation.
Doctors would like the applications to go to the register through their superiors, the police and the prosecutor’s office. Only medical employees would have access to data, while maintaining data protection provisions. Objective? Simple: know earlier that a man who can be a threat in the office. And be able to react.
« Medical Blue Card » – as in the case of domestic violence
Second postulate: creating a protective procedure for medics, modeled on a well -known « Blue card « used in the case of domestic violence.
If the doctor reports that he fell victim to aggression – mental or physical – a special path would be launched: psychological support, organizational security, administration or services reaction.
Not like in Krakow. Not after the fact.

What else? Double service obligation
The Foundation also postulates that patients from the aggressive register are served only in the presence of at least two people, e.g. a doctor and a nurse, or two doctors. Such a standard would apply wherever the risk of attack can be real.
– This is the absolute minimum – the authors of the petition write. – The system does not provide us with basic security today.
Will the ministry react?
The petition has already come to the Ministry of Health. Now the environment is waiting for the department’s movement.
