A few days after returning from vacation, the man began to feel bad. He had serious flu -like symptoms. On August 30, there were also pain in the chest, shortness of breath and fever. He was hospitalized.

Richard Moore spent a month in the hospital after the Legionella bacterium infection
As it turned out, his condition was so serious that he was put into a state of pharmacological coma. His partners and children were told that he may not survive it. Richard was diagnosed with legionnaires – severe pneumonia caused by Legionella bacteria that can be in water, especially in water and sewage installations, swimming pools and bathing appliances. The 45-year-old spent five days at the ICU first, then he was hospitalized for a month, and the doctors fought for his life.
– This vacation was to be a short break before starting a new job as a chef. They cost me a dream job, health and almost life. I don’t remember much of my stay in the hospital, but when I was accepted, I remember fear and ignorance what is wrong. I am lucky to live, but it’s so sad to think that my family was told that I may not survive. I have never realized that legionnaires’ disease is so serious and I want to tell my story to realize other people. I would not like to think that other people are going on vacation, unaware of what they can get into. If there are any problems with the hotel, then you have to look urgently. I feel happy that I was able to survive. I am worried, however, that someone else may not be as lucky as I do – says Richard Moore.

Although almost a year has passed since Richard’s illness, the man is still struggling with complications. He falls in lethargy, is weakened, he has problems with movement. The 45-year-old hired lawyers who are to check what exactly led to his condition.

Legionnaires’ disease is an extremely serious disease, and it may take a few days from contact with Legionella bacteria before the symptoms of the disease begin to appear. As Richard found out, the effects of the disease can be long -lasting. Nothing can compensate for the influence that the disease has and still has on Richard, but we are determined to provide him with answers and specialist support he deserves – said Jennifer Hodgson, a lawyer representing Richard.
