Vrbové. It was still to be opened in May, unofficially served for several months, a new cycle route connecting Pieľšťany with Vrbový in Piešťany district officially made available over the weekend. According to installed readers, the number of cyclists only counted on the opening of approximately 42 thousand.

It was built on an unused railway line, which has been served since the beginning of the 20th century, but the last passenger train went after it in 1978. Twenty -five years later, costly transport ended there, the track has not been used since then.

Enthusiasts did not come

People from the Civic Association Cango tried to save the track for several years, who also organized a dressing race several times.

They promoted the construction of a cycle route alongside it, which was almost impossible for complicated ownership relationships. Finally, however, the intention of the safe connection of the spa town with Vrbový won, which years ago in the petition supported more than 3,500 people.

Even in 2009, they signed the founding deed of the Interest Association – the Green Way of Piešťany – Vrbové.

The agreement was then signed by the Mayors of Piešťany and Vrbové, Mayors Krakovian, Trebatice and a robe. The aim was to support the fare, among the priorities at that time included the restructuring of the unused railway line between Piešťany and Vrbový, passing through the villages of Trebatice and Krakovany.

« The story of the Green Road does not end with a solemn opening because we have two more commitments ahead of us. One is to build a plan in Vrbova’s relaxation zone, which was included in the renewal and resistance project among unauthorized expenses. Valo.

He and Radoslav Mlynar from the Association of Municipalities Green Road were one of the main initiators of the cycling route.

National Cyclo -Coordinator Peter Kľačka evaluates this project positively in terms of perseverance, determination and mutual communication of all participants.

« It is a pilot project of meaningful use of the long -term unused railway line in the form of its long -term lease for the construction of cycling communication without its irreversible cancellation, as it happened several times in the past, » added Kľučka.

Its greatest importance sees the possibility of a safe transfer to the bike.

« At the same time, the cycle route provides a wide range of possibilities of its use of domestic residents as well as visitors to the region for recreational use of the bicycle in connection with the surrounding possibilities of cross -border cycling with neighboring Moravia, » the cyclo -coordinator underlined.

Safe move to work

Mayor of Vrbové Štefan Kubík also highlighted the huge importance of the cycle route, in addition to spending leisure time, it will also serve as a safe transfer of people to work. Hundreds of domestic people go to industrial parks in Trebatice and Krakovany every day on a bike.

Jozef Viskupič, Trnava robe, was not praised by the opening.

« If a good idea is combined, if a village, a city, a state and the European Union combines, they can do something together and build. In this case, the unused and overgrown railway line has become a modern, safe and ecological corridor, » Viskupic said.

The county contributed EUR 200,000.

The Green Road cycling route in the length of 7.6 kilometers was built by the Association of Municipalities with the same name, which received approximately EUR 4.8 million from the plan of renewal and durability of the Slovak Republic. The total cost has climbed to approximately EUR 5.5 million.

The work included, among other things, the reconstruction of seven bridges, including new pillars, a complete remediation of the bridge above the D1 motorway, as well as the installation of a safety railing of a cycling route of almost 3.6 kilometers, reconstruction of crossings near Krakovany and Kocurice and others.

For years it was no longer working

The railway line was opened on 27 October in 1906. The railway had only local importance. Passenger transport worked only between Piešťany and Vrbový, the turning of Trebatice -rakovice served only freight transport.

It was not until 1951 that passenger transport was introduced between Trebatice and Rakovice, which operated until 1971-1972. Personal transport definitely ended in 1978.

At present, the track between Trebatice and Rakovice does not exist. In 2003, regular handling trains stopped driving and freight transport was canceled.
