After his controversial trip to Moscow The EU member of Fernand Kartheiser spoke up at a press conference in Luxembourg. He talks about what he discussed there with Duma parliamentary politicians in Russia-and also addressed his status in his EU parliamentary group.

Kartheiser has not yet been excluded from the EKR faction, he says on Friday. It could be that this happens, but so far this has not been done. « I see no reason to rule out myself, » he emphasizes. He does not regret his trip. He preferred to talk to Moscow about the war in Ukraine with the Brussels bladder.

Whether Kartheiser should finally fly out of the EKR faction, will be on June 4th at an extraordinary meeting decided to the faction, a spokesman for the EKR had confirmed the « Luxembourg word » this week.

The EU MP has announced that he wanted to participate in the extraordinary meeting of the EKR. He didn’t just want to wait in front of the door during the session, but would put his arguments on the table.

If there is an exclusion, Kartheiser can imagine either joining a new faction or working as an independent member of the EU Parliament.

Kartheiser on trip to Russia: « Didn’t just have compliments »

At the beginning, Kartheiser emphasized that the reports of the international press, according to which the program of the talks in Moscow, was specified exclusively from the Russian side are not correct. There was a joint discussion about the program, said Kartheiser.

According to the Kartheiser, the climate during the talks that « went well » was « open and friendly », the EU member describes. In the matter, however, these were also « hard ». « We not only compliments. It was not the goal of the trip, but also to restore the dialogue. »

ADR party leadership is behind Kartheiser’s Moscow trip

The Luxembourg EU member had Last week on Friday morning on Platform X, his plan announced to fly to Moscow. He wanted to talk to representatives of Duma, the Russian Parliament, after they invited him. The message within his EU parliamentary group quickly caused resentment.

Before Kartheiser flew to Moscow, the Polish co-chair of the EKR faction, Patryk Jaki, had threatened to throw him out of the parliamentary group. Kartheiser knows the positions of the parliamentary group « very precisely », Jaki told the « Luxembourg word ». « When he goes, I will make an application to exclude him from the parliamentary group. »

In Luxembourg, however, Kartheiser can count on the support of the ADR party leadership. Alexandra Schoos to Kartheiser’s journey told the « Luxembourg word » that she had « nothing to blame » for her EU MP. She complained about the possible exclusion of Kartheiser from the faction.

« It is sad to fly out of a party because you were looking for the dialogue, » she said at the beginning of the week. Kartheiser is « on line with the ADR election program ». As long as nothing changes, he also has no repressions of the ADR.

Kartheiser and his ADR party would now have to look for a new political home at the EU level. The right -wing extremist groups « Patriots for Europe » and « Europe of Sovereign Nations » would be considered. Both are considered to be Russia-friendly and deliberately EU-hostile.
