After gale
- Despite all the predictions and all polls on Sunday, voters even caused a true tornado in Portuguese political life. The data were on the ground and no one predicted that the country was at the point for a perfect storm. Fed up with elections, but above all fed up from the state to which this came, the electorate considered that this was the moment when he had nothing to lose anymore and decided to risk something completely different. André Ventura’s merit that he felt the air of time and realized that the Portuguese were ready to listen to someone who does not let them always play the game in the same way. As one of the new voters of coming this week told me: “So we know that there is someone who forces them to do things in another way. It’s not just the PS and the PSD and that’s what I wanted. This voter, (who assimilated some of the arrival arguments, such as not having access to the NHS because there are immigrants there, or pay taxes for others to be at the coffee all day), was happy with the result. For now you still think that André Ventura’s role should be that of the opposition leader. Then starting to face him as Prime Minister goes a very small jump.
- In the zero year of a new political time, it is important that those who have resisted the shake, Luís Montenegro, quickly realize that this is now different. Changed everything. With better or worse political conditions, AD is required to rule well. It has to be a reforming government, even without having enough votes to do so. The time of political plays is over. Navigation in sight and bodo to the poor have already given what they had to give.
3. The government of the democratic alliance cannot commit the blunder of ignoring the arrival and holding the PS. The worst that the AD leader can do is to fall into the scatter that ‘is not no’ means that he cannot make understandings with arrival, for example in budgetary matters. The PS, stunned by the situation where it was left, has already started to extend the red treadmill to Montenegro, with the noble argument of not throwing AD into the hands of the arrival. But what the socialists have already realized is that their salvation is, at least in the next few times, to throw themselves into Montenegro’s arms. After Sunday, no one will understand that the government makes assignments, for example in terms of tax reduction (where it arrives and AD are in agreement) to the PS.
- Legend has it that one day, when they were still the two party companions, Montenegro praised the political skills of Ventura and Ventura thought Montenegro was the best leader for the PSD. Each of them there knows what they have seen in the other and it is good that in the days they get to remember it. Now is that the AD leader will have to show his political abilities, managing to govern to the Portuguese and at the same time negotiating with an adversary who will prepare a trap on each curve of the path. Ventura would even thank AD to come to the PS once again and this is the favor that Montenegro cannot do to him if he wants to survive the next elections.
- It’s just a suspicion, but it seems to me that the surprising result of Sunday’s elections may also bring surprises to the presidential elections. Starting from the famous theory of eggs and baskets, the Portuguese risked laying an egg in an unknown basket to see what result it gives. Do you want to take two risks at the same time? Is betting on a new party and a president they don’t know won’t be more risk for a people who like to play for insurance?
