After Ensor now also work by Picasso found at Antwerp Kringwinkel: « Spachtexemplaar » auctioned for 12,600 euros (Antwerp)
After the earlier discovery of an original etching by James Ensor, donated to the KMSKA, the mouths at Kringwinkel Antwerp were open again. Notable employees found a white earthenware scale with the stamp ‘Empreinte Originale de Picasso’ between the regular donations. Hammer price? A remarkable 12,600 euros.
The scale could just as well have unnoticed in the store or even ended up in the residual stream. Thanks to a sharp eye of the employees, the valuable art object was recognized on time and placed on uwkringding.be, the auction site of the Kringwinkel.

« One of the employees of the Household Sorting recognized the scale, » says work leader Davy van Bestelaere. « That requires knowledge and education. » Something in which Kringwinkel Antwerp consciously invests.
The relief design with bullfight was designed on 11 March 1953 and produced in a circulation of two hundred pieces. The scale consists of white earthenware, with brown-green decor in Engobe, Émail and oxidized paraffin. At the rear, both the ‘Madoura square feu’ and the ‘Empreinte Originale de Picasso’ stamp can be found.

For a remarkable price of 12,600 euros, the piece went on April 6 under the hammer on uwkringding.be. Johan is the lucky one who can give the work a place at home. « My house is a museum. I focus on details and I think differently because I have autism, that’s my asset, » Johan proudly says. He mainly wants to support the social economy, and specifically the Kringwinkel. After admiring the beautiful piece at home for a while, Johan will probably give it to a good cause for young people with autism.

The proceeds from the Picasso scale are invested in social employment, through training, guidance and customized workplaces. Kringwinkel Antwerp wants to further focus on their double mission: sustainable reuse and social impact.
