After defeating cancer: one should be more encouraged to check
The trip was not easy
Today, J. Poškuvienė enjoys long walks with the dog, counting steps and thanking you for another day without illness. The woman does not hide – the journey to this point of life was not easy.
« I was definitely not a cool man who is constantly checking my health under preventive programs. In March 2017, I was taken to the Reception Unit of Klaipeda Hospital by an ambulance due to uncontrolled bleeding, » says J. Poškuvienė.
According to the woman, although the symptoms that not everything was fine was before, as she appeared to be a visit to her doctor’s visit to her doctor. He still reassured himself that nothing hurt and felt quite good.
Demanded every effort
The diagnosis was shocked by the diagnosis of Stage 2 Cervical cancer. However, there was no time for self -regret: intensive chemossal treatment started in just two weeks, requiring a lot of psychological and physical strength.
« I was subject to radiation therapy to a bowl along with chemotherapy cisplatin once a week – five courses performed; then brachytherapy in the cervix. I felt very bad, had no strength, melted limbs, nausea, dizziness and sensitivity. I was not interested, I had no desire to even talk to children on the phone, ”J. Poškuvienė remembers the course of treatment.
According to Klaipeda, the treatment process also encouraged hormonal changes: « Naturally, menopause begins little by little, and for me there was no transitional period.
At the end of the treatment, the woman felt better only after a year. Not only the support of relatives, but also the new pet helped to recover.
« I am currently exercising, I have a puppy, I walk with him every day, count steps, I follow the principles of healthy eating. It is not that you lie down in front of the TV and live. I observe myself.
However, even after a fateful diagnosis, the woman does not hide that visits to the doctors are still tension.
« The excitement does not disappear because I know it is a disease that can come back, » she observes.

Became part of life
After treatment, J. Poškuvienė became involved in the Association of Oncology Patients (POLA). She has become a patients’ guide – not only women with cervical cancer, but also their loved ones.
« I became a volunteer thinking that maybe another is not as lucky as I am, maybe he has no support of my loved ones. People call not only to ask, to talk, but sometimes to spill negative emotions. It is, calls angry, complains that he does not want to be prescribed, bought some mushrooms, will go to the herbalist.
Jovita notices that a lot of people tend to hide the diagnosis of cancer: « There are women who even tell their spouse, fear that they will leave the sick, close to the shell.
Does not hide the resentment
Jovita emphasizes that prevention is an essential factor in reducing the risk of oncological diagnosis.
« In my environment, I recommend vaccinating children from the human papillomavirus (HPV) that can cause cervical cancer as soon as possible. Other countries have long been applied vaccination against HPV, while in Lithuania myths are still vaccinated. My granddaughter is vaccinated and I am very pleased. – J. Poškuvienė is surprised.
It is often the case that people need to ask themselves, wondering what research or preventive check program they belong to.
However, Klaipeda does not hide the disappointment that more active health care professionals are currently lacking in proposing preventive check programs and vaccinations.
« It is often the case that people have to ask themselves, wonder what research or preventive check program they belong to. It would be good for family doctors, nurses to remind, encourage you to check. After all, cancer is a treacherous disease, does not occur within two weeks.
