The now 37-year-old Aurélie L. was sentenced in absentia in our country in February 2015 for darkening nearly 7,000 euros. That money was collected in 2011 by its local residents from Ruette (Province of Luxembourg) with the help of a spaghettiestine, so that the woman could go to Canada to be treated for bone marrow cancer. As soon as the neighborhood realized that she didn’t really suffer from cancer, there was no trace of L..

Ten years after her conviction, the woman has now surfaced again. In Condrieu, near the French city of Lyon. There, together with her partner, a chef, she had run a restaurant for a long time. However, the case was closed in April, when the couple collided with the French court because of a dispute with the previous owners of the building. All the while the woman had kept her real family name hidden – by replacing a letter or using that of her partner – but the truth came to light due to the court case.

Although she was officially without a trace, the woman has appeared several times in the local press in recent years, including to show her works as an artist and with her and her husband’s restaurant. Before she settled in Condrieu, the woman had already worked in the hospitality industry of a French ski resort and in Nice.

« Difficult youth »

Despite her conviction in our country, the woman will not be extradited to Belgium. Since May 2020, her conviction (up to a year in prison and a fine of 2,750 euros) has been barred. « I had a difficult childhood, » the woman told the French newspaper Le Progrès. I made a stupid mistake when I was young, but I want to leave that behind now. «
