After 10 years, the content of chickens in the cells will be banned. Prisma plans to rebuild even earlier
Prisma expresses its support to the bill on amendments to the Law on the Protection of Animals, which plans from January 1, 2035 to ban the maintenance of chickens in cells in order to produce eggs, the company’s press service reports.
An important place in the activities of Prisma Peremarket is occupied by the well -being of animals, stable business methods and customers that they want to provide high -quality and affordable choice.
“Since eggs are an important part of the diet of many families, it is extremely important that changes in the methods of egg production do not have a disproportionate effect on households with lower incomes,” said Katrin Yigi, the responsibility and quality manager of Prisma Peremarket. Therefore, Prisma also calls to take into account the following:
- Manufacturers and retail merchants should provide a gradual transition period for adaptation to changes;
- It is necessary to introduce support measures that will help Estonian egg producers adapt to new requirements;
- Through a clear and transparent communication, it should be increased by society’s awareness of changes and the advantages of eggs from chickens contained outside the cells.
Being part of the S-GRUPP, Prisma voluntarily took the obligation by 2026 to gradually abandon the sale of eggs from chickens contained in cells: “We strive to improve the conditions of animal detention, simultaneously playing for an inclusive and condensed approach, which protects the interests of consumers and the economy as a whole.”
