African swine fever was found last week for seven wild boar / day
Last week, two wild boar in Jelgava region, including one wild boar in Līvbērze parish and one wild boar in Valgunde parish, was found.
The virus was also found last week for one wild boar in Jaunbērze parish of Dobele district, one wild boar in Staicele parish of Limbaži district, one wild boar in Prauliena parish of Madona district, one forest in Marupe district Marupe parish and one wild boar in Kursīši parish.
As a result, 823 wild boar in 26 counties in 132 parishes and three urban areas have been identified in the wild boar population this year in Latvia.
Since June 2014, when the ASF was first registered in Latvia, the virus was found in a total of 10,534 wild boar, including 217 wild boar in Latvia in 2014, 1048 in 2015 – 1146 in 2016, in 2017 – 1431, in 2018 – 905, in 2019 – 430, 2020 – 377 wild boar, 2023 – 1002 wild boar, and in 2024 – 1433 wild boar.
LETA has already announced that this year there was also a single ASF outbreak in a domestic pig shed – the men were detected in the backyard farm with 36 pigs in Dzukste parish of Tukums district in early May 2025.
ASF in Latvia was first registered in June 2014 for three wild boar a few meters from the Belarusian border. ASF is a very dangerous illness, and the entire herd must be thrown in the home pig’s shed.
The FVS is a public administration under the supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture, which carries out national supervision and control of the food chain and the veterinary sector.
