On June 24, the Liberals decide at an extra party meeting who will be Johan Pehrson’s successor at the party leader post. The nomination period expired at midnight the night of Tuesday and now it is up to the nomination committee to wash out its proposal.

– We compile all the inputs we have received and then we create a requirements profile and fold people based on what the party wants, says the nomination committee chairman Lars Persson Skandevall, who expects to come up with about a week for the Extraordinary General Meeting.

About 400 people, party associations and county associations have heard from them. Based on the nominations that have become known so far, Climate and Environment Minister Romina Pourmokhtari appears as a favorite.

Romina Pourmokhtari has been criticized for choosing to take a seat in the Kristersson government, despite being a tough opponent of collaboration with the Swedish Democrats.

Her supporters describe her as stable and experienced. 60-year-old Edholm has a couple of decades in Stockholm City Hall on the track record, as both a member of the council and the bourgeois council. That she is now responsible for the school, the Liberals’ heart issue, is also posted in her plus account.

So far, however, it is only A county association, Västmanland, that has nominated her. Sources with transparency also state for DN that she absolutely does not want to.

DN has also applied for Lotta Edholm, but she has not returned.

Nina Larsson has been the Liberals party secretary and became Minister of Gender Equality this spring.

Lars Persson Skandervall points out that there are about ten candidates who have received reasonably wide support during the nomination process.

Other names that appear Is newly created Equality Minister Nina Larsson, as well as Erik Ullenhag who was running, and lost, against Nyamko Sabuni in the 2019 party leadership election. Ullenhag, who has a long and wide track record, has since been away from politics. He is currently Sweden’s Consul General in New York.

The decision is in the hands of the three major county associations Stockholm, Western Sweden and Skåne, which together have a majority of the agents at the meeting. None of the three have so far published their nominations.
