The Christian police union ACV will not submit a strike notice for the Airport of Brussels Airport. This is because the federal police confirmed the existence of an internal report for the aviation police on Sunday evening that does not seem to be in accordance with the applicable guidelines for border controls. That is what Joere Dehaes of ACV Police says Monday afternoon.

The fuss around the relaxation of border controls at Brussels Airport started on Friday. An internal bill to the staff showed that the director of the aviation police would have given an order to relax border controls. Vlaams Belang referred to Article 9 of the Schengen Convention. Border inspectors would be « systematically and preventively obliged to apply Article 9 of the Schengen Border Code ». The ACV police union also confirmed that on Saturday morning.

However, the federal police denied on Saturday afternoon that the border controls are being relaxed. According to the federal police, this memorandum is « nor from the director, nor from management ».

The federal police then confirmed the existence of an internal report for the aviation police on Sunday evening, which, according to the top of the federal police, « does not seem to be in accordance with the applicable guidelines for border controls ».

Now that that confirmation has come, ACV Police question the usefulness of a strike notice. « We have to solve the problem of the long queues in the airport internally, in conversation between the police unions and the top of the federal police, » Dehaes emphasizes Monday afternoon. « With a strike notice, we would put pressure on travelers who start their summer vacation within two weeks and we don’t want that. The travelers should not be the victim of a breach of trust between the federal police and the trade unions. »
