Actor: Director Boyle: Cillian Murphy in Zombie continuation
Oscar winner Cillian Murphy (49, « Oppenheimer ») caused a sensation in the end-time thriller « 28 Days Later » in 2002. Under the direction of Danny Boyle, the IRE played a coma patient who wakes up in deserted London, where peaceful people had turned into murderous beasts through a deadly virus. In an interview with the “Indiewire” industry portal, Boyle announced another appearance of Murphy in a planned continuation of the end-time thriller. He will have a « significant » role, but he couldn’t say more at the moment, said Boyle (68).
The sequel « 28 Weeks Later » followed in 2007 under the direction of Spaniard Juan Carlos Fresnadillo. After these two films, a new trilogy is now in the house.
At the end of June, the zombie horror “28 Years Later” with a line-up around Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Ralph Fiennes came to the cinemas, again staged by Boyle. For January 2026, “28 Years Later: The Bone Temple” is announced by director Nia Dacosta. Murphy is said to have a small role in this, followed by a larger part in the planned final film of the trilogy.
Murphy played for years in the “Peaky Blinders” series. As the main actor in Christopher Nolan’s cinema « Oppenheimer », he won the Oscar as the best main actor in 2024 with his representation of the physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer.
