Since March of this year, representatives of the Ida-Viruma civil society have begun work to create a vision of the future region until 2050, which will meet the needs of the local community and comply with the goals of sustainable development and security of Estonia.

The result will be a document in which the development paths and the image of the region will be described, as the current and future generations want to see it.

The main goal of the IDA-Viri Tulevik-2050-2050 is the future of Ida-Viru, organized by the Center for Safety and Defense with the support of the Baltic organization Nidus Balticus and the Swiss Foundation OUR Common Home, is to support and expand the capabilities of local initiative residents and beginner opinions in the formation of regional politics.

According to the director of the Center for Information on Security and Defense Dmitry Terperik, the main recommendations developed by participants in the initiative group are planned to be discussed with representatives of various public spheres, as well as political forces on the eve of the upcoming elections to the local government of Ida-Virumaa.

“The Ida-Viru and its residents have been experiencing the socio-economic consequences of various protracted crises for more than seven years, which negatively affects both the current processes and the prospects of the region, especially in the eyes of the young generation. As part of this program, we want initiative representatives of civil society to express their opinion on the development of Ida-Virumaa, ”said Dmitry Teperik.

The program will host training seminars, discussions, information meetings, educational trips and public events in which experts, representatives of local media, politicians, officials and active citizens will take part in order to ensure wide support for the vision of the development of Ida-Virumaa.

According to the member of the group of the initiative group Irina Skubi, the program “IDA-VIRU TULEVIK-2050-the future of Ida-Vir” is an opportunity for representatives of civil society to bring fresh ideas into plans for the development of the region. “We see that the development of the development strategies of the region is usually engaged in mainly politicians, officials and scientists, and it is difficult for residents to influence this process. In the framework of this program, we will try to convey to official structures and local politicians our vision of how to make our native region more attractive and comfortable for life and profitable for economic activity, ”said Irina Skubi.

The Center for Information on Security and Defense is a non-profit organization that has been working in Ida-Vir County for more than 14 years, which is a unique platform for civil society cooperation to strengthen stability and effective functioning.
