Once, in not so long past, the red-black coalition (Socialist and Radical) went for hand, so that it would not now. At the end of May, 1998, the Assembly of Serbia, at the proposal of Dobrivoj Budimirović, Professor of the Central Agricultural School from Svilajnac, adopted the Law on Higher Education, which was secretly written by unknown authors.

It was the first rector, which in the history of the oldest and most prestigious higher education institutions in Serbia were elected exclusively by the will. His main task was to prevent and the smallest movement at the most important university in Serbia and the tailoring of academic life for his own extent.

The Purić, as he said then, turned the most important higher education institution to the Yugoslav Left party. And the consequence of his choice and acting was that a large number of assistants and professors, the Food, left the Belgrade University, and 1,400 teachers and associates per new criterion were admitted.

Professors and assistants chose the Dean, the Minister of Education was asked for regular professors. And the government selected the rectors, deans and asked members of the Management Board.

It is obvious that the government desires in the 1998 replay. Years and putting a point on the autonomy of the University. They need a change in the law. They recently already tried to without public debate, the proposal of the Law on Higher Education. But the resistance of the scientific community was so much that they had to pull him.

Now the new attempt follows.

The Ministry of Education received the task of preparing a new Law on Higher Education within three months. It is announcing even his adoption in parliament during July.

This new law announces full centralization, suffocation of institutional autonomy and the factual subordination of the University of Political Will. The universities themselves would no longer choose the rectors. The University Management would be directly controlled by the executive. Faculties would become flow boilers for graduations, and education – goods without quality guarantee.

Almost identical to the situation on the BU since 27 years ago. It is obvious that the replay of fierce revenge on government rebuked university, of course, if the academic community does not oppose them.
