According to the ABVV, 145,000 people from January 2026 lose their unemployment benefits due to the limitation in the time of the De Wever government. A majority will then turn to the OCMWs, it sounds. This is the conclusion of the socialist trade union based on its own database, accounting for 45 percent of all the long -term unemployed.
The figure is a lot higher than the 100,000 that Minister of Work David Clarinval (MR) brought up, based on the data from the National Employment Service.
ABVV prepares legal steps at the Labor Court and relies on the ‘standstill principle’. This states that acquired social rights, protected by Article 23 of the Constitution, cannot in principle be phased out by the government.
The trade union is strong that the judge previously followed his interpretation of the standstill principle. « We won then and that will happen again, » it sounds.
