About 25 percent of the adult population is thick

Serbia

In Serbia between 22 and 25 percent of the adult population faces the problem of obesity. This statement was officially confirmed by Daniel Gallun, president of the Association of Endoscopic Surgeons of Serbia, at a Symposium on Bariatric Surgery in Belgrade.
Galun emphasized that the problem of obesity is a serious problem in the world and that it is not only an aesthetic problem but a serious metabolic disorder that can have its own consequences and lead to the development of other diseases, such as heart disease, brain diseases and diabetes.
– What is particularly worrying is that obesity can lead to cancer, so we need to pay particular attention to this problem.
The most important thing is for these patients to be examined in a consultative way, which means identifying the most optimal therapeutic modalities to treat these patients. And that means not only that they undergo surgery, as this is the last form of treatment when other treatment methods are not effective, but that in a multidisciplinary way we will see what the string of steps will be to treat these patients – said Gallun. He states that it is necessary for various specialists to be involved in working with patients with obesity problems.
In Serbia, about 400 surgical procedures for obesity treatment are performed annually.
As some patients say, they undergo operations in state institutions, while others decide to solve the problem of obesity in private clinics. The goal is to show citizens that there is enough competent here in the region that can solve the problem of obesity, as many patients decide to seek help abroad (Turkey).

Methods

The end of the Department of Surgery and Anesthesiology, the Faculty of Medicine, University of Belgrade, Ognjan Scrobic, said there are some basic conditions that should be a medical indication for bariatric surgery, or obesity surgery.
He says the first step is to determine the body mass index (ITM) and that there is an indication of surgery if it is over 35, or 30 if there are concomitant obesity diseases, such as diabetes mellitus, hypertension, mobility problems and many others.
One of the most common surgical procedures in the world when it comes to solving the problem of obesity is the so -called. Gastrectomy, which practically means narrowing of the stomach.
– This procedure narrows the stomach so that practically 75 percent of the stomach is removed. They remain a narrow tube and a stomach in the form of a narrow tube, through which food passes with difficulties and patients lose weight well. Not only do they eat less but a number of positive hormonal factors in the body are also activated – Scrobic said.
In second place in popularity is the method of gastric bypass, ie. Braking the stomach with the small intestine.
« This is a very effective procedure, which is performed and is good for weight loss and treatment for diabetes and many other diseases, » the donation said.
When it comes to innovative methods of dealing with obesity, Starobic states that endoscopic procedures are becoming more common.
– So, it is no longer an operation, but an endoscope is introduced through the mouth, which narrows inside. The success rate is slightly lower than in true Bariatric surgery – he said, adding that Bariatric surgery is now called metabolic surgery because of its beneficial effects, especially in patients with diabetes and other comorbidities.
