A41 should be “tendentially free” for heavy
The A41 motorway, Porto Regional Circular (CREP), should be “tendentially free” for heavy, namely goods. The goal is to try to reduce traffic at VCI.
« The government will end all efforts to, within four or five months, implement a reduction in toll rates at CREP, tendentially free for all heavy vehicles, » the Minister of Infrastructure and Housing.
Miguel Pinto Luz, after a meeting with the mayors of the Porto Metropolitan Area (AMP) in Porto, spoke of a “drastic reduction in what tolls are at CREP to provoke, with price elasticity, the change of traffic to CREP” instead of the internal waistway (VCI).
Asked when the tariff reduction could be in force, the ruler said the goal was to come into force « in January next year. » Miguel Pinto Luz stated that the order allowing him to make these decisions was made before the executive’s resignation, and added that the decision was made “with the consensus of all” in AMP.
Also the mayor of Porto, Rui Moreira, explained that the concept of “tendency free” refers to either the differentiation between heavy goods and passengers, or the passage in certain hours of the day.
« This cannot influence what they have to do with passenger transport, » said the mayor, noting that « the second question that has to be evaluated is whether this should be applied every time of day or not, due to a cost-benefit analysis. »
Rui Moreira understands that “maybe not” is worth applying an exemption “to a vehicle that passes between 03:00 and 4:00” in VCI.
