A young man from Estonia died in the Riga Marathon / Day

On Sunday, May 18, a 25 -year -old runner from Estonia was found in a marathon in Riga during a marathon. Eyewitnesses, including medical Kian Askari and other runners, gave first aid to the fallen young man, while ambulance medics arrived after about 15 minutes.

The organizers have not yet publicly commented on what had happened, and the State Police did not have information about the death of a person, but the Emergency Medical Service has confirmed to the portal that one participant had been taken to hospital in serious condition.

Other eyewitnesses also informed about the tragic case on social networks, who urged attention to the availability of medical assistance in competitions of this scale. The death of 25 -year -old Roland has also been confirmed by his once -represented football club « Elva » in Estonia.

Rebeka Ozolniece, the Riga Marathon Communication and Marketing Manager, previously informed LETA that the race this year has happened without serious incidents, and compared to other years, when the marathon over the weekend, the number of hospitalizations was much lower this year.

Overall, organizers’ observations show that participants have become much more responsible in the preparation process in recent years, both visiting the marathon during the training process and listening to the marathon coaches, so they come to the start much more prepared.

It has already been reported that the Rimi Riga Marathon had a total of 40,122 participants registered in various distances this year, the organizers of the Marathon informed LETA.

This year, the marathon has also attracted a record number of foreign runners – 6017 participants from 109 countries around the world.
