A volcanic eruption show in the Pearl « Battle of Aukar Rights »
The CEO of Perlan says he is very pleased to be trusted to acquire and continue to operate this popular landmark of the city in Askjahlíð.
This morning, a purchase agreement was signed between the City of Reykjavik and the Pearl Development Company ehf. up to ISK 3.5 billion for the Pearl and its two tanks of six. The agreement was signed in a new showroom in Perlan and there will be precisely an exhibition opened next month, which is intended to help people experience volcanic eruptions in as real as possible. That idea was born in January last year.
Bruni, Airline Bankruptcy and Covid
« We are continuing to work closely with the City of Reykjavik and are proud to be trusted for this, » says CEO Gunnar Gunnarsson, who spoke to a journalist after the impressive show had been shown in attendance.
« We signed the lease 2016. We have been operating this for ten years now, we have done passing through burngo through the bankruptcy of the airline, go through Covid and we are still here, « he adds about the operation of the Pearl Development Company ehf. » This has been an interesting trip but we have arrived in a good place today. «
500 million show
The purchase agreement includes the City of Reykjavik on pre -emptive rights to the Pearl. Other obligations are that the Pearl should be used for entertainment -related activities, and in addition, elementary school children in Reykjavik will be allowed to come up with organized visits to the Pearl Nature Museum twice on the schooling.
Gunnar says his company intends to continue the Pearl for years to come, it is not to camp for one night and he is extremely optimistic about the future in Askjahlíð.
« I think by premiering a show in Reykjavik, which costs 500 million to increase the experience of Reykviks and guests, says a lot about where we are camping. We love this project and intend to be in it for as long as we have the power and courage, » answers Gunnar, happy.
400,000 tickets last year
Asked if the volcanic show will be the main attraction after it opens, he points out that in the Pearl there is already a unique collection, designed by the country’s main experts.
« It doesn’t matter where you look, we have geologists and biologists and everyone who comes to create a unique natural collection globally. This is an addition to that, this is just an extra right, we had four courses but now we have five, seven dishes or nine dishes, ”he says, but about 400,000 tickets were sold in the Pearl last year.
« By adding such a show that does not exist in the world, we believe that guests are even happier away, if possible, because we are the best entertainment in Iceland, according to Tripadvisor. »
Asked further in the purchase agreement that was signed this morning and whether Perlan Development Company has been looking for a long time to buy, he says so. The City of Reykjavik has only advertised the property for sale, set a minimum price on it and the company was the only buyer to fulfill the conditions.
Want more Icelanders to visit
Gunnar encourages Icelanders to show up in the Pearl and enjoy the entertainment that is available there, they are warmly welcomed like the foreign tourists.
« This is a perfect area for everyone. If you think that only 4% of Icelanders come here at a world -class show. People sometimes forget what’s in their local environment, so I challenge Icelanders to come and visit and say hi. »
