One of the largest road investments in Germany lasted in Horb Am Neck – a new bridge over the Neckkar River valley, which is to relieve the city center. But now, on this great project, « a shadow » hung, as the mayor of the city says.
On Tuesday, around 12:30, there was a tragedy. Three workers worked on the working platform when the rope that kept it suddenly. The gondola collapsed at a great height – it is even 70 meters. There was no chance of survival.

– It was a tragic accident at work – confirmed police spokesman Benjamin Koch. Rescuers were in place rapidly, but they could only find the death of all three employees.
The prosecutor’s office in Rottweil initiated proceedings regarding the determination of the causes of the tragedy. An expert also works on the spot, which is to assess why the rope broke. It is already known that the accident site is a construction section of 40 to 100 meters high.
About 70 workers worked on the spot. After the accident, everyone was psychological assistance. The work on the construction site has been immediately suspended and will not resume on Wednesday.
Local authorities shocked
The shocked mayor of Horb, Peter Rosenberger from the CDU, admitted: « This is an extremely tragic accident. » He emphasized that the new bridge « hung a shadow » and the whole city was mourning.
The Minister of Transport of Baden-Württemberg, Winfried Hermann from the Green Party also took the floor: « We are deeply moved by the fact that today three people have lost their lives in a terrible accident. This is one of the most severe accidents at work that has ever taken place at road construction in our country. »
The Horb Bridge is an investment worth EUR 170 million. It is to be 2.1 kilometers long and run 70 meters above the ground. According to plan, from 2028 the transit traffic from road B32 is to be redirected through the new crossing.
