A surprising reaction of seniors to a fraud attempt. It’s hard to believe
A desperate voice on the phone and a request for help – for many older people it is the beginning of a nightmare with fraudsters. This time, however, the script came differently. Seniors from the province Świętokrzyski not only did not let themselves be fooled, but also helped the police capture the criminal.
This was the attempt to extort « on the son »
A man who – as Świętokrzyska police reports – pretended to be their son, called the marriage of Kazimierza Wielka. The voice in the phone was full of emotions: crying, panic, history about a serious accident and the need to quickly transfer 400,000. PLN for a « deposit ».
Other – alleged lawyer and « policeman » who were to authenticate the whole story also appeared in the conversation. The whole action was well planned, but this time it found extremely sober interlocutors.
Seniors did not panic. The woman quickly sensed falsehood and notified officers. Meanwhile, her husband decided to « play the stage ». He packed the bag – but instead of cash, … cabbage came inside.
The fraudster appeared to collect « money ». As the Świętokrzyska police reports: before he managed to convert the leaves from the bag, real policemen won it. The man was still trying to use gas, but he was overpowered and detained. On May 26, he appeared in court.
A storm on the internet. « Cabbage for 400,000 »
History has instantly spread social media. Internet users did not spare the words of appreciation for alert seniors, but they did not hide the amusement of the situation.
« When you think you will get PLN 400,000 … and you get a bag of cabbage – welcome in reality, cheat! » – it was written in the police post.
Comments were a mixture of irony, admiration and indignation against the scale of phrases. « Applause for seniors. I would like to see this guest’s face », « that only the senior would not get an indictment of introducing illegal banknotes into circulation », « applause alert seniors » – wrote users.
More and more such attempts. How to avoid fraud?
The police warn that the cases of « granddaughter », « in the case of » or « to the officer » are more frequent and more sophisticated. Fraudsters count on the victim’s emotional reaction and lack of contact with the family. That’s why it’s always worth it call to loved ones and contact the real policebefore he takes any action.
