On May 20, in Ungheni, the Socio-Medical Center was officially inaugurated, a modern day institution intended for the provision of integrated social and medical services, with disabilities, chronic diseases, immobilized in bed, but also for refugees, from the municipality and the neighboring localities.

The opening event was attended by high -ranking officials, including the ambassador of the German Federal Republic, Margaret Maria Ubber, the country director of GIZ, Claudia Hermes, the Minister of Labor and Social Protection, Alexei Buzu, as well as representatives of the local public authorities.
The center has a capacity of at least 20 beneficiaries daily and has two mobile teams, which will allow up to 5,000 home visits annually. At the same time, it will also work as a training space for social and medical staff, as well as for volunteer caregivers.

The project is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), through Giz Moldova, in partnership with AO Homecare and local authorities. The total investment amounts to 15 million lei – money used for the reconstruction of the building and its equipment with modern equipment, including physiotherapy and rehabilitation. « Germany has been a constant supporter of the Ungheni in strengthening social and medical services. This center reflects our confidence in the fact that every person, regardless of age or financial situation, deserves access to care. It is an important step in our collaboration, based on partnership and trust, » said the ambassador of Germany, Margaret Maria Ubber.
The Minister of Labor and Social Protection, Alexei Buzu, emphasized the importance of the project: « We have a population that ages, and the social services have not adjusted enough. Therefore, centers are essential. At the level of the whole country we have rays that are deserted from the point of view of specialized social services. We have chosen the local authority ».
Marina Croitoru, boss Atas Ungheni, explained the innovative character of the Center: « It is a complex of services that neither social workers, nor personal assistance service can usually offer. The center has transportation to bring the beneficiaries here, where they receive specialized care – massage, kinetotherapy, physiotherapy.

Vitalie Tîrsînă, superior medical assistant within the center, said: « We have kinetotherapy, massage, physiotherapy and home care. Each beneficiary is evaluated individually and receives care according to needs. We are glad that we can contribute to a better life for those who, otherwise, would remain without support. »
During the visit, I met Mrs. Elena Guțanu, one of the beneficiaries. As he was doing a massage in his hand, he told us with emotion: « I am very happy that this center was opened. It was necessary! ».
