New details revealed during the investigation into the tragic death of Saffron Cole-Nottage, mother of three children, shed new light at the circumstances of the accident. A 32-year-old woman died as a result of an accident that occurred on February 2, 2025 in Lowestoft, in Suffolk.
Her tragic death took place while walking along a dangerous seaside path, which as a result of algae became extremely slippery.
Delay in the activities of emergency services?
The investigation reveals that delays in the reactions of emergency services could have contributed to the tragedy. Saffron, who lost her balance and got stuck between the rocks during the tide, began to call for help. Unfortunately, despite the fact that the call was reported at 19:52, firefighters only arrived around 20:10, and the medics began to operate a few minutes later. Coroner Darren Stewart drew attention to the possible « inconsistency » in communication between emergency services, which could have influenced delayed intervention.
Rescue activities were taken by passers -by and daughter Saffron, but the water level increased quickly, and the woman was under water before the services arrived. The coroner expressed concern whether adequate coordination of emergency services was carried out correctly, emphasizing the importance of time in this situation, given the growing water level.
Dangerous path and lack of security
Saffron was walking in the region of the Esplanade city promenade, even though warnings about the danger associated with this path were previously issued. It turned out that this place was extremely slippery and compared by residents to the ice rink.
The lack of appropriate barriers or other security in this place created the risk of accidents. Residents emphasized that as a result of algae, the path became very dangerous, especially during the period when the tides appeared.

After the tragedy, the inhabitants of Lowestoft and friends of the Saffron family expressed their compassion, making numerous tribute to the deceased. Her partner, Mike Wheeler, left a moving letter in which he expressed his great sense of loss. He mentioned how much she would be missing, both to him and children.
