The dramatic situation took place about 500 km from the coast of Alaska. The ship sailed under the Liberia flag from China to Mexico, when smoke appeared on its board. Despite the rapid reaction of the crew, the attempts to extinguish the fire failed.

According to the information provided by Zodiac Maritime, Midas shipowner, the fire was detected when the unit was in the open ocean. The crew immediately turned on fire systems, but the scale of the fire turned out to be too large. Two trade ships started to help, on which all crew members were evacuated.
There were about 3,000 at Morning Midas. cars, of which nearly 800 are electric vehicles. They can be of key importance for the development of the situation. As Reuters reminds, « fires related to electric vehicles on ships are difficult to extinguish due to the heat generated and the risk of re -ignition for a long time. »
A similar event took place in 2022, when the unit transporting luxury cars, including Porsche and Bentleye, sank off the coast of the Azores. That fire also exploded on board a ship transporting an electric car and was not mastered for many days.
Until now, it is not known what caused a fire on Morning Midas. An analysis of the causes of the incident is underway. The still burning ship drifts in the waters of the North Pacific. American services monitor the situation and make decisions as to further actions.
