– a serious mistake for Finnmark
It is with great disappointment that we find that today a decision has been made to continue the electrification of Melkøya. This is a decision that will have major and long -lasting consequences for Finnmark – and not for the better.
In order to supply Melkøya with electricity, we will now have to seize even more area for the development of wind power in our valuable and pristine nature. Finnmark has already contributed more than enough. Now we will obviously be « national battery » – at the expense of nature, wildlife and locals.
At the same time, we see that electrification will lead to higher electricity prices for ordinary people. It is the man in the street who gets the bill, while the big companies get green -washed their climate accounts. It is unfair, unsocial and unsocialist.
Yes, the Center Party made a mistake in joining the Labor Party in this matter. We are honest about that. But we have subsequently taken responsibility and tried to correct this serious error. Finnmark Center Party has stood and will continue to stand for Finnmark’s interests, and for a policy that actually sees and understands our region.
We fear that this decision will only escalate the negative population trend we have seen in Finnmark for decades. When nature is reduced, electricity prices increase, and people feel overrun – then the belief in the future is weakened. We do not need more national abuses against the districts. We need a new course.
Finnmark deserves better.
