A planned private tunnel for the villa of Wolfgang Porsche in the center of Salzburg causes excitement in the Austrian city. The 81-year-old head of supervisory board of the Porsche Automobil Holding has a property on the Kapuzinerberg, where Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s sister Nannerl once gave piano lessons. Around 100 years ago, the famous author Stefan Zweig (« Chessnovelle ») lived there. The above -ground access road is narrow and impractical.

According to the city, Porsche paid 40,000 euros in order to be able to build the tunnel on a public reason. Although an expert opinion on behalf of the city government has classified this as appropriate, tunnel opponents like Tobi Rosswog find that the sum is far too low in relation to Porsche’s assets.
Rosswog invited to « Salzburg Porsche Tunnel Festival » this week. As part of this campaign, flight lists were also distributed and a public discussion was held. The number of protest participants is rather small, the police said. For the time being, Wolfgang Porsche did not comment on questions from the German Press Agency.

The critics of his project also include the Greens and the Communist Party, which represents a vice mayor in Salzburg. « We reject special treatments for super rich, » said the Greens Ingeborg Haller. In their view, the tunnel deal came into being non-transparent.
The last word in this matter has not yet been spoken. The Salzburg municipal council is expected to decide whether the land use plan will be changed in favor of the Porsche tunnel. For this Thursday, a small protest against the Salzburg tunnel has also been announced in the Porsche city of Stuttgart.
