A real hero! Roko from Ploce in the middle of the night gave his wife Milo in the car: ‘She was brave’
One hour, there is no one in Ploče near the Emergency Room, there is the City Administration building, the Harbor Master’s building, no one is going there at that time, they were just her, me and no one else. You have no one to help, and in question your wife and your child are. You can’t panic because it’s no use for it – Rocco Musulin recounts us a situation where he and wife Mila found themselves early Wednesday morning, when little girl Lucia arrived in the car in front of an ambulance.
– Ever since we left the house and while Lucia was born, maybe 10-15 minutes, everything went very quickly. And now we have a daughter who was born in Ploče, and as far as I know, no one has been born for a long time. I hope there is a chance to enroll Lucia on the place of birth just when we go to the registrar to report it. Otherwise, the first maternity hospital you come to is, so in our situation, you should have been writing to Lucius Metkovic as a place of birth. But I will try to fight to write her board – Happy Roko, who already has two children with Milo, an 18 -month -old twin Nika and Duju.
Night to remember
– I slept in another room with my son when Mila came to me around 1 in the morning and said that I needed to get up because he felt the effort so that we had to go to Split. I called my parents to come to stay with the twins, we changed each other, I went for the car, helped darling down and we went – he recounts. They did not ride even 500 meters when Mila said that she was very painful.
– ‘You won’t be able to drive fast enough,’ Mila told me, to which I replied that then we were going to the emergency room in Ploče. When we came to the emergency room, the dear labor was more frequent, I got out of the car and ringing at the entrance, knocking, but no one opened. Then I saw a notification at the door that they were on the field and that we call 194 – still in disbelief, Roko tells.
– I called 194 and explained the situation that the woman was giving birth and not getting to Split, and they called the team on the field and told them that they were returning to the plates as soon as possible. However, two minutes later, Mila says ‘Roko was going, Glavica blinked’. Then I called 194 again and told them to direct us what we needed to do. Well, they just went, step by step, while the little one was not in her lap – Roko says gently.
– The most important thing is that the two of them are well, that Mila and I did what we could do. Mila was very brave, she stayed with herself, she wasn’t scared. It is important that she did not experience shock, lost consciousness. She helped me, I helped her – says the proud father and husband.
« I was just hoping that something wouldn’t go wrong, that Mila would not start bleeding, and I knew I had to stay as much as a calm head, » Roko points out.
When Lucia was born and cried, an employee from Dubrovnik told them that the baby laid mom on their chest.
– Luca calmed down at the time, and we scared if she calmed down because something was not okay or because she felt her mom. So we tapped her on the shoulder, checked. And through the cell phone this in Dubrovnik, he asks ‘Is he moving, if he moves’, I shout ‘her, it’s good’ – says Roko still under the rush of adrenaline.

– What is funny childbirth was led by that man over the phone and I, two men. But he was really great, he knew everything he needed, he was with us all the time, until the emergency arrival. Although you have no one else around you, it is easier for you to have someone at least through your cell phone who tells you what you need to do. He was the first league – Roko concludes.
– This whole situation is so sudden, unthinkable, film. You never expect something like this to happen to you, and you listen to things like that on television and read on the internet. But when it all goes happening, you don’t get to think at all, even though you are very scared because you are aware of the whole situation and what can go wrong and complicate yourself. But in those milliseconds that life means you think mechanically, you do some things mechanically just to do them better – tells us mom Mila Knezevic Musulin, grateful that everything is in order.
– I have to praise Rok, he reacted great. Otherwise, in stressful and sudden situations, he is very calm, meticulous. He is not like most men nor a panic. He did his part well and reacted very quickly. I think in this situation nothing better could be done than what he did, so he really honors him – Mila is proud of his husband.
They expected little Lucia soon because the term was on Sunday, June 8, so Mila had already had a ready bag for a maternity ward.
– The labors caught me in the late evening, just before 11pm. They were not too strong and the big space was between them, but very quickly they began to turn into more intense efforts, which within 15 minutes came to that there was no time space between them. We changed our way, I took things and we went to Split – says Mila.
Split never further
But the pain was growing every minute, so she realized that she would not reach 130 kilometers away from Split.
– The only thing we could do at that moment was to go to the emergency room, purely for one of the medical staff to be with us when childbirth goes. But when we came in front of the emergency room in Ploče, there were no medical teams, they were on the field. Roko took his cellphone and called 194, they merged with an employee in Dubrovnik, put him on the speaker that we could hear him both and talk to him – Mila recalls.
– Roko listened to his instructions and I really have to praise that employee from Dubrovnik who calmed us down all the time, explaining with a slight tone what we needed to do and how to behave. However, we didn’t talk to him for half a minute, Lucia had already got out. We both caught her, we covered her with a towel, wiped her. She cried immediately that it was a good sign. We examined her nose and her mouth as an employee from Dubrovnik told us, and then the ambulance team arrived, so we broke up with him – Mila tells us.
The ambulance were Dr. Galić, nurse Ivana Radaljac and driver Goran Grbavac.
– I have to praise them too. Ivana did most of the job around the umbilical cord, took the baby to herself as they switched me to an ambulance, comforted me all the time. The driver of the hunchback held my arm and comforted me what in such sudden and shocking moments mean a lot – he points out.
Arrival to the maternity ward
During all this, Dr. Irena Marinovic, a gynecologist from Ploce, who immediately called the maternity ward in Metkovic, was also contacted, so they transported Mila and Milo and the baby to the emergency room.
– In Metkovic, I gave birth to a placenta and they treated me. Lucia and I then stayed in Metkovic, I thought we would stay there until they let us go home in a few days – says Mila.
However, since childbirth was carried out outside and not in the maternity ward, they were transferred to Split from precautionary measures where they are currently located.
– We are both well and we are recovering well, I hope it will remain so. Lucia weighs 2.7 kg and 46 cm long. Obviously, I have a problem with the threshold of tolerance for pain, obviously I can handle a lot, but I didn’t expect everything to happen so quickly. As much as we are ready because the appointment is approaching me, you will be powerless because you do not know what will happen and how to expect some things and be familiar with the process and the whole situation, again it manages to surprise you a lot – Mila emphasizes, happy that everything has ended well.
– Roko and I when some exceptional and stressful situations are as a team we work great, so this time it was and thank God everything ended well. This is definitely a story that will be remembered for a long time and recount something that Lucia will one day tell her children and grandchildren. The night to remember and her bombastic arrival in this world – says Mila proudly, who already has experience with quick births.
Another quick childbirth
– In my first pregnancy with twins I spent the last month in the hospital for pregnancy, the same was a dramatic situation, I had a cesarean cut. Two days before the imperial cut, I cracked a Aquarius, I ended up in a boxing in boxing. Since I was first, he thinks I will not give birth soon, maybe only in the morning – Mila recalls from 18 months ago.
However, in less than 2 hours from the cracking of the Aquarius, she naturally gave birth to twins.
– It was also dangerous because they were one -year, otherwise they only grow such cases on a caesarean section. And as I gave birth to them, only at once 10 doctors and midwives were created by me, they couldn’t believe it. For another year, my natural rapid birth of twins was recounted in the maternity ward. Obviously childbirth cannot go normally, it must be dramatic, but that it will be so dramatic with Luca, we didn’t expect it – Mom Mila concluded.
